Kathy LaFortune

Tulsa Symphony Orchestra

TSO Board of Directors

Dr. Kathryn A. LaFortune

Dr. Kathryn A. LaFortune is a licensed clinical psychologist and practices forensic psychology in Tulsa. She has been an adjunct instructor in mental health law at the University of Tulsa College of Law for over a decade, and also is an adjunct professor in the psychology department there as well. She also teaches at the College of Health Sciences at the Oklahoma State University School of Osteopathic Medicine and Langston University.

She graduated from Duke University in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, later graduated from the University of Tulsa College of Law in 1983 with a JD and became a licensed attorney. She then returned to TU to receive a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and now practices in Oklahoma. She has spoken at national conferences for the American Psychological Association and has published in various journals.

Her interest in music began at a young age when she took piano lessons for ten years. Throughout her childhood, she has participated in various choral groups including Holland Hall Concert Chorus and Madrigal group, and later joined the 60 member Duke University Chorale that debuted with the North Carolina Symphony in 1981 at Carnegie Hall. It was a memory of a lifetime for Kathy in having the opportunity to sing with a new symphony orchestra and performing Poulenc's Stabat Mater with that orchestra. Her uncle was a member of the Tulsa Philharmonic Orchestra and also a member of the Starlight Band group. Her grandfather played in the military band in France in World War I and her great great grandmother was a concert pianist. She has always enjoyed learning about music from her relatives and is excited about the new Tulsa Symphony Orchestra.

About the TSO...

The Tulsa Symphony Orchestra employs professional musicians with the focused, collective, and ongoing aim of presenting all kinds of music of the highest quality. The TSO functions throughout the year, and is comprised of self-governing “executive musicians”—individuals who perform masterful music and execute the many decisions involved in sustaining a major orchestra. With a variety of performances and concerts, in-school events, community-engagement programs, classroom lessons, collaborative master classes, and other such appearances, the TSO intends to invigorate and broaden arts education all across the City of Tulsa and, further, the State of Oklahoma. Rebuilding and strengthening the musical arts infrastructure of this city and its environs will remain a key concern and core value of the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra.
