The Tulsa Symphony Orchestra will
present six concerts for its
2008-2009 season, with programs
ranging from the music of Disney
movies to a program devoted to
20th-century American music.
Season tickets range from $30 for
balcony seats to $306 for so-called
“Golden Row” orchestra seating.
Prices for all season tickets
(except balcony seating) will
increase after April 15.
The orchestra again will be led by a
series of guest conductors — all of
whom have led the ensemble in
seasons past.
The season opens Sept. 6 with
conductor Alastair Willis leading a
program that includes the Symphony
No. 3, the “Eroica,” by Beethoven.
Pianist Alexander Ghindin, winner of
the 2007 Cleveland International
Piano Competition, will join the
Tulsa Symphony for its Oct. 18
concert.
Described by the Washington Post as
“an uncommonly musical pianist” who
brings “a nearly orchestral grandeur
to this music,” Ghindin will perform
the Piano Concerto No. 3 by
Prokofiev.
Conductor David Lockington, last
seen here in 2002 with the Tulsa
Philharmonic, will be on the podium
for the Symphony No. 8 in G Major by
Dvorak.
Music from some of the great films
released under the Disney label will
be given the full orchestral
treatment Nov. 15 in “The Magical
Music of Disney.”
Conductor Edwin Outwater returns for
the March 14, 2009, concert, which
will showcase some of America’s best
music — by Gershwin, Barber,
Bernstein and others.

Edwin Outwater will lead the Tulsa
Symphony Orchestra in a concert of
American music.
The Tulsa Symphony will again
feature a winner of the Rotary Club
of Tulsa’s Crescendo Award as the
soloist for its April 3, 2009,
concert. Pianist Zuo Zhang will play
the Piano Concerto No. 1 by
Beethoven as part of the concert
conducted by Gerhardt Zimmerman and
featuring the Symphony No. 10 by
Shostakovich.
The final concert of the season on
May 16, 2009, will feature conductor Daniel Hege in a program
that includes Richard Strauss’ tone
poem “Ein Heldenleben.”

Conductor Daniel Hege returns to
lead the final concert of the
symphony’s 2008-2009 season
All concerts will be 7:30 p.m.
Saturdays in the Tulsa Performing
Arts Center’s Chapman Music Hall,
with the exception of the April 3,
2009, concert, which will be at 7:30
p.m. Friday.
Tickets are available by calling the
Tulsa Symphony at 584-3645, on
online at www.tulsaworld.com/tulsasymphony.
